I would have to agree that the GeForce 2MX would be the best choice. I had a voodoo3 and could tell a noticable increase in frame rate and smoothness with MAME after upgrading to the GeForce. As for sound cards in my opinion the Soundblasters are overpriced crap. As long as you're not planning on running 5.1 dolby digital or doing MIDI music production I'd personally buy a cheapie Yamaha or no-name soundcard that's "soundblaster compatible" and call it good.

: Hey folks,

: I've got a PIII-450 that I am going to put in my cabinet to use as an emulation machine along with a PC-gaming machine. For this reason, I'm trying to find the best balance of sound and video cards where I can get the most out of MAME when I run it in either pure DOS or a DOS box, but also get high end 3d graphics and sound when I am running newer games in Win98.

: For this reason, so far, I have a SBAWE64 and a Creative TNT2 card lined up for this machine. My question is this - Can I do better as a combo machine? And second, will MAME function better with the AWE64 and TNT2 in a Win98 DOS box as opposed to a pure DOS session due to the newer drivers for those cards? If the slowdown is minimal, I may as well run it all in windows but if there's still benefits to pure DOS, I want to do it that way.

: Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

: Thanks!

: Brad
