xmame is sort of a misnomer. it'll run in X,
as well as on the console (no X) with svgalib
or openGL.
:(though I'd definitely question the benefits of putting a machine into an arcade box if you're looking for something multi-user).
multi-user just means it'll multi-task. i.e. mp3
and mame simultaneously. Unlike dos...
