Another variation of plexi that works well is Lucite-Tuf (not plain Lucite) which is basically the same thing as Lexan - an extra strong plexi resitant to cracking.

For my DC controller, I got it in a rather thick size, and used it for the top, so you could still see inside at all the guts.
