I have been runing MacMAME in an arcade machine for a while now, so I'll tell you all I know. MacMAME has several video modes. These include software rendering (with or without scanlines), Rave (stretched to full screen and blured), Glide (for certain video cards) and Rage mode (makes use of on board video chips). All work well (I use rage mode). As someone has mentioned, arcade monitors are not supported (through a front end or anything). If you have a mac w/ a free pci slot, you can use a MacPicasso video card. It supports many resolutions, so an arcade monitor can be used with ease. You could also get a VGA monitor. I got a u3100 and it works great. I should mention however, that cost is a huge factor. I am in the process of switching to a PC right now. I am building a 700mhz for a little under 500 dollars. You could never do this with a mac. I guess it depends on what you want to do with your project. It is possible to use a mac though.
