A game is not more likely to "sink into oblivion" as it gets older. If games like Tron, Pacman, and Frogger are being restored and sold at auctions, online, and other places, it's not likely to completely dissappear anytime soon. It's games that are/were not super popular that are at greatest risk of disappearing. And while a certain game might not be one of your old favorites, there are surely others who absolutely loved it.

And not all of the "new" games added in the last MAME releases are "newer" games in the chronological sense. The Nintendo Playchoice games and the VS games are some of my favorites.

A question: If the hardware for a game actually completely disappeared off the face of the planet, and it were already partially emulated (and all the rom chips and so forth had been dumped and documented), would it then be impossible to emulate the game perfectly?
