Of the few questionable postings done anonymously in the past few months, I actually know who all but one were, and of that last one I have a fairly good idea. I've sent a couple of caution messages out and the behavior stopped, and banned one anonymous surfing site altogether after discussing it with their tech support and not finding a way to allow anonymity for them while still preserving accountability and protection for my web site.

I'm loathe to change anything on the message boards unless I can preserve the ease of use and ability to archive past messages. I'm still looking/evaluating.

I'm also reluctant to do anything to impede the free exchange of messages. I have found that on the message boards that have gone to a username/password required to post, that I have for the most part stopped posting even when I felt I had something to contribute. Now, I'm probably a lazy punk, but I'm afraid that there are others who might do the same :)

However - at the point that the board loses it's overall friendly tone and value, I'll put in better security. As long as the signal to noise ratio is good though, security will remain the same even if we go to a different system (i.e. anonymous posting will still be allowed).

Comments? I don't mean to be inflexible, and am open to being persuaded otherwise...

: It's a good idea to allow nick registering for a forum, mainly to avoid people using your nickname and saying stupid things, insulting or flooding. However, this is not the case. This forum is not a general forum where bunches of assholes come to say 'PS2 is better than DC, fuck you all' etc etc... I believe this forum is useful and has not that kind of problems, luckly. Although I think nick registering could be good, I don't see the necessity to give a real e-mail ad, or to post with a real identity, so the registering shouldn't be obligatory to post in this forum. I have used fake nicknames and e-mail ads, and not because I want to hide myself, but because sometimes I prefer to ask questions or give asnwers in an anonymous way. Am I hurting anyone? I don't think so. Just an opinion...
