I would be more inclined to agree with you under different circumstances. I'll bet you wouldn't be quite so supportive of the Napster crew if the software were bug-ridden and/or prone to crashes and system incompatibilities. Fortunately, I have had nothing but success from beta 7 onward (when I joined in).
Granted, the MameDev crew will work on whatever the hell pleases them. And yes, it does take a balance of old and new to avoid general stagnation of the overall project. But the newer games are in less danger of loss by bit rot than the older ones. :-)
It is not my intention to whine, for it would suggest that I am unappreciative. However, I disagree that I have no right to voice constructive criticism.
