The easiest is to hack a mouse and use the guts. With this you don't need an interface. Look at the oscar spinner guy's website and you'll see how he hacked a mouse to make a cheap spinner. It'll cost you about $4.00. Its a cheap way to do it, and if you have to replace the guts at any time, you may have to sort a redo the whole thing cuz not all mice guts are the same size and stuff.

If you go the more convential way, you could get a Happs board like they use on their trackballs and interface it to an Optipac+. Since you've got a demo derby cp, it probably has circuit boards and encoder disks on it. Buy the happs ones to replace it and the optipac to interface it.

: Perhaps I've missed it but I want to know how one can take an optical device such as a trackball or spinner and wire it to a mouse so you can use it in MAME. On the controls page there is a link on how to do this very thing with a Happ's spinner but my spinner (it's actually an optical wheel) is not Happs. Anyone know how or got a link for me? I'll keep looking. I have a Demolition Derby control panel that I'd like to wire up to a mouse for use in Mame (Off-Road, DD, Sprint games). Any help?
