Did you read my reply......3/4" is the proper size.
I've chose oak because I've heard it's the most resistant wood, but I like my panel black.
Go ahead and paint it.....it is personal preference. Mikec was probably just saying that oak is a little expensive but it is not like you need a whole 4x8 sheet so it is nothing to cry about.....whatever you do dont stain it....I stained the first cabinet I ever built and it looked really nice if it was a piece of furniture. Black looks the best and most arcade like.
