Correct, pushbuttons would work the same way. No limit on how many per input, but remember you will need to remember that they are connected together so you can't use both at the same time. Also, remember that if one of the "not used" ones gets pressed or bumped accidentally, it will affect the current game.

Two I-Pac's daisy chained will provide 55 inputs.

One opti-pac will work unless you want to use the trackball and the rotary joys together, but there aren't any games that require this!
