I have some convex pushbuttons and I found that my fingers started hurting sooner than with my new concave buttons. They really play the same, so I don't see that one type works better than the other for any given game. The only modern games I've played use non-standard controls (guitars, sniper rifles, etc) so I don't know if anything new uses them or not.
