The L/L throttle is an analog control - therefore, any analog stick or pointing device would suffice - I think the easiest and cheapenst (and probably the most realistic) way to go would be to find a sufficent control (ebay, salvage, build) and hack a mouse - thanks to your post, I've already thought of a few ideas, and am going to build one myself.
