Put both pieces together to ensure that they line up perfectly. To avoid damage to the laminate it would be a good idea to get a scrap piece of 1/4 wood cut the same size as you panel and put it on top....clamp it tight and then drill the holes the laminate will not get hurt.

The hole for the joysticks is usually 1 1/8" but I have drilled up to 1 1/4" as it is still covered by the plastic washer on top.

3/4" wood is the proper thickness that you want for the wood.

: I have decided to begin with the box for the control panel, and I have a doubt about how to make the holes. Which of these 2 options is better:

: 1- I make the holes on the wood, and then I make them on the laminate, formica, or whatever material I chose, and then I add glue and put both parths together.

: 2- I put both parts together and then I make the holes.

: I'm afraid of damaging the covering material, so shouldn't I use the same tool for making the woods that I use for wood.

: Some final questions: what's the best glue for formica? And what kind of paint should I use for oak wood? What diameter has the hole for the Happ's Super Stick? and for the buttons? Can I fasten the buttons well if I chose 3/4' wood, or is it too thick?
