You forgot to mention not to use standar Sony controllers, but models by Mad Katz, or those called High Frequency. The original model is imposible to sold. As regards the construction of the joystick, there are thousands of pages that explain many different projects (see the examples link on this webpage). I'm also thinking of building my own arcade joystick (one stick and ten buttons) based on a PSX pad hack. It's easy and you can use it in both your PSX and your PC (with an adapter).
