I like that type of machine. I've thought of building something like that. Tekken 3 comes like that, and the larger Time Crisis machines. I think it's a good configuration if you have a big monitor/TV. I even thought of just building the control panel pedestal part, and making connections available to connect it to a TV in an already existing entertainment center.

: So many MAME do-it-yourselfers come back to the classic enclosed cabinet design, whether buying old or building new. But as I was cruising through the University of Calgary arcade - quite a happening place - it occurred to me that I ought to consider a different cab design altogether.

: I looked at Dimahoo, Marvel vs. Capcom, Dead or Alive 2, Capcom vs. SNK... and I found that all of them used a plain but functionally very attractive design.

: - a monitor mounted on a pedestal about 4' high, sitting straight up (rather than inclined)
: - a control panel mounted on a separate pedestal about 3' high, around two feet away
: - a small "channel" on the floor, hiding miscellaneous connections between the pedestals

: Eureka! Simple! It's modular, so it can be stored or moved more easily; the monitor sits straight up, so it could be used as a movie/TV screen (especially if it happens to be an S-Video TV anyhow); probably accomodates different sizes of screen (or control panel) quite well, and allows quicker changes if necessary...

: Any thoughts on this?
