If the game didn't support an analog input for the pedal, you can't add one. Well, you could rewrite the ROM, but thats a little extreme.

I have plans to make a pedal that is analog, but also wire a switch too it so I can use it for either type game.

: Folks,

: I'm looking for a way to map an analog gas pedal into games like Pole Position and Spy Hunter. I've come into an original Pole Position pedal set, and would really like to get it going. The analog wiring with a new pot into the joyport is no problem, but games such as MAME don't always have provisions for analog inputs for these functions (acceleration, etc). Any suggestions? This question is aimed at games which have no obvious mapping pre-existing in terms of analog input. Again, maybe I'm just missing the param, but please give me guidance as to what to do / where to look if so. It's not dropping into my lap.

: Do I have to rig up a 555 timer and hook up a pulse width modulator to an opto-isolator, and supply the control voltage through a wheatstone-bridge-type arrangement through a pot on the pedal? Take +5v off the joyport? Use the modulated pulse width generated to dictate keystroke actuation proportionality? That's doable, but it seems absurd if an analog input is available physically, just not linkable via software. Besides, what pulse frequency would be sane? 4Hz?

: This question I suppose is directed at those who are most familiar with the analog input capabilities of Mame. Any comments at all? I'd really like to get this thing moving in terms of realization. We're not just playing games here (pun exuded).
