Well, I do agree that games that sold well CAN become classics, but Mortal Kombat sold well, and people discovered after the flashy graphics, its a mediocre SFII clone. Its a great game, but misses the classic mark by a bit. Blade Runner was a complete flop at the box office when it was released in 1982, but has since been regarded as one of the best Sci Fi movies ever. Fantasia Flopped when released, and now is considered possibly the best animation ever by some. My point is there are manny "cult" classsic arcade and video games, that are fun today, like Moon Patrol and Zoo Keeper. So sales alone never dictate a classic (you think IN SYNCH will be considered classic two years?), BUT, classics can really take off because they are SO good, even the masses of asses love them, like Pac Man Defender, Donkey Kong, etc.
A "classic" game, is any game made long ago that people still day dream about at work, or play on emus even though they have a $4,000 computer and copies of Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament gathering dust while they play 20 year old Pac Man on mame! Why? a very complicated fact new games forget: siple, and fun. Easy to learn, hard to master, thats a classic.

: Why are some games considered classic and remade over and over for new game systems while other games, that are also great and fun, nearly forgotten (by game companies anyway)?

: just wondering aloud...
