Definitely 22 gauge! I first started with 14, but that was WAY to bulky.

I get packs of 20 from Active Electronics, don't know if there is one near you but Radio Shack also sells them in small quantites and with males I think you get like 5 each Though I think you can buy in bulk from Radio Shack on web.
