I printed mine on simple 'computer' paper using a large format inkjet (most likely just like the print shop will be using). The light shines through the image just fine and it looks great. It's easily as bright as any of the original marquees that I own.
The problem with using common paper is that it tends to warp when the ink wets it, so I had to use two pieces of plexiglass to help flatten it out.
