That remote is from a Packard Bell multimedia PC, and was designed to work only with their software.

I got one at a computer show for about $5 a while ago, and although the driver it came with did not work (because I don't have the packard bell multimedia software installed, duh) I found a generic IR remote driver on the net that does work with it. I think it's called Wirc.
The driver allows you to use any remote with that IR receiver, and since that remote is really flimsy you'll probobly want to. The mouse pad on that remote is just 4 buttons under a round pad. You might as well be using arrow keys to move the mouse pointer.

You can get WIRC here:
http://www.zorxx.com

and, BTW, there are also schematics for making your own IR receiver.
