Pin-outs revisited

I mentioned in a previous post that I was searching for the Atari Millipede trackball pinouts. I think I found what I was loooking for. http://www.spies.com/arcade/boardPinouts/Millipede.txt

But someone correct me if I'm wrong. Am I correct in assuming that since there is no way to interface it with a PC, the optics of this trackball are completely useless? The only way they wouldn't be is if I could attach a PS/2 connector to the trackball's harness and just plug it in to the PS/2 port(which of course will not work).

So, is my only option to figure out a way to "hardware interface" the trackball rollers to the optical wheels of a mouse?

I'd hate to throw away the trackball's PCB and wires, only to find a use for it later.

Thanks a lot.
