Running a network on a Win98 non-gui (DOS) mame machine ???

I want to access my mame machine through my network. Currently, I quit AOS (in dos mode), turn off my arcade monitor, and load windows. Can I start the network (or have it running all the time) from the dos prompt? I know you could "kinda" do this with the older MS-Dos (like dos 6.2) but I do not know if you can do it with the new dos (win98). Thanks!
