More newbie testing with Advanced Mame

Finally I have found the way to get perfect scrolls with my computer hardware (Geforce DDR + LG795 monitor) in Advanced Mame: vsync_adjust = yes. With this line I get perfect smooth scrolls, at least in the screen mode that I'm testing: 288x224 Moreover, I've find out that the settings of the video modes can be set from the text menu, and you can even change the screen resolution to an exact 256x224 (I guess this is a trick with the chosen screen res, isn't it). Of course, there are hundreds of problem that I still have to solve. I still don't know how to set refresh rates because I have no idea of these technical issues of monitors and cards hardware, but I think before then end of 2001 I'll be able to set 4 or 5 screen resolutions with decent refresh rates and perfect scrolls (if my monitor doesn't break down with all these tests). With every discovery new problems arise: Advance Mame doesn't recognize some of the screen modes that I set in MM, I cannot get rid of scanlines in some screen modes, and again setting a full screen picture together with a high refresh rate is something that depends on luck or faith, considering the knowledge I have and how I'm doing things. Well, now I have Blacktiger and the games running at its resolution, at full screen with 64hz, and perfect smooth scroll. My next challenge is to increase this refresh rate. Then, I'll try to do this with the weird resolution of CPS1 games, which, by the way, shows jerky scrolls and nasty scanlines. Oh.. btw, with vsync_adjust = yes, scrolls are better than with Mame32 with triple buffer. Mame32 shows a one-pixel duplication of the moving image, while Advanced Mame doesn't. You have to follow the image with your eyes to see this. This can be noticed in Cadillacs and Dinosaurs: look at the squared background moving upwards during the introduction of the characters. Apart from being totally smooth (if you're lucky enough), the moving image is exactly the same as if it was quiet, while with Mame32, the top of every square is faded while moving. You have to disable scanlines (if you can) to see this.
