I thought it looked strange too, most six button setups are 2 rows of 3 buttons. Your setup might actually be better for Neo Geo games (they have 4 buttons in a row, which doesn't really work well with the 2 rows of 3 buttons setup). The only problem I have with it (besides it looking weird) is that it would be awkward with games that only have one or two buttons (most of the games in MAME only have one or two buttons). If I'm only using two buttons I don't want to use my thumb and finger for them.
