If you are THAT serious about responsiveness and need to use it to practice for a real arcade game tournament... Well I then think you have to get a set of real arcade cabinets of required flavour... MAME is a very good emulator but the Allegro library and PC hardware has it's limitations. I don't think it will ever be possible to get all supported games in MAME 100% accurate compared to the real thing. Very close is enough for me, and by the way, I do think that there where Millipede cabinets with a mini trackball, at least here in Sweden (that's what I recall anyway), and that is another problem. There are original games and cabinets but there are also a lot of conversions and renegade bastards that some of us around the globe had to build our arcade experience on ;)

: There really is no way to tell whether the responsiveness of one's MAME control panel is exactly the same as the original one on an actual arcade game. If I tried to use my judgement based on what I remember from playing the game 14 years ago, and began practicing using MAME, the slightest difference would manifest itself when I showed up at the tournament to play the real thing.(I can afford to guess).

: Also, the arcade games Centipede and Millipede use two different trackballs. Centipede uses a mini and Millipede uses a midi.

: : I have a SUZO 2 1/4" Mini Trackball (same size as in Centipede/Millipede). The performance was horrible when I first used it with the "Cute Mouse" freeware mouse driver. I later changed to an old MS Mouse driver and it now perfect! Just the way I remember Centipede/Millipede. Marble Madness in another story. I still have to tweak it some in MAME to get the right feel. I don't know if it is because the Marble Madness game I used to play used a 3" Treckballs...
