: Dials are devices that spin 360 degrees - typical spinner (uses mouse)

: a paddle is like a dial, but only turns so far (say... 280 degrees for example - like those from the old atari 2600) Most paddles use Pots.

OK, then why is there a separate option in optimame for mouse, pedal and paddle? (4 each?????) If they all just controlled the mouse, wouldn't this just be track x and y? If you assign an input in optimame to be dial 2, devices that control the mouse don't work, which leads me to believe that this is a separate axis that could be utilized.

: As far as 4 peddles, I havent had a chance to try it out, but i think you can map each pots axis to a peddle. Therefore you have 2 pots in each joy, and 2 joysticks = 4 possible peddles.

Again, then why is there separate options for peddles and joysticks? If they use the same axis (joystick x and y), you would just need one option. but there are four sets of peddles as well as four joysticks.

If there is a way to access all these axis independantly, it opens up a world of possibilities. Since there is 4 sets of Track x and y, how do you have separate controls. I have a mouse on my PS2 PORT, a Happ trackball on my USB port, and my rotary joysticks on my serial port, but they all do the same thing--control the mouse. If they could work independantly, you could have 2 player marble madness or even three player championship sprint, and still have about 24 axis unused.

Ugh! I'm so confused.

: Hope this helps cool your head :) heheh
