I am curious as to whether this will be strong enough for my home machine? Has anyone used this method and had problems, if so please give me some pros and cons, it is no skin off my back to go back and use through bolts to prevent future problems.

I have always mounted the stuff from the bottom up, I have also made all my control panels from 3/4" Oak. I think you will be fine, keep the CP clean looking and mount from the bottom.
