One other possibility is that the swapfile itself has actually BECOME fragmented (which does happen). That's a bit more involved, and can't be resolved by a defrag.

I'd suggest doing what Ohso said, then running a defrag of your disk. If that doesn't help, you may need to delete and re-create your swapfile. If you're NOT letting Windows manage the file, it shouldn't become fragmented in the future.

If you REALLY want to be a pro, repartition your disk to create a partition that is the exact size of the swapfile you want to create, and tell Windows to use that drive for swap. But that's probably a bit more involved than is necessary. Guarantees that the swapfile won't become fragged, though. :)


: I have just upgraded to Windows ME and have noticed that while playing games (even older 80's games) in Mame32, the hard disk keeps whiring away, resulting in slowing down the gameplay.

: I have 256mb ram so I have no idea why it does this, any ideas if their is anyway to stop it happening.
