The pc that runs my mame machine also runs my regular computer that I love to play those powerful games on my 19" monitor. I just simply cant afford to have a dedicated pc just for my mame machine.

: video ram gives you two things:

: 1- resolution (ie more ram higher res more colors,
: 8meg does 1600x1200x16bit color)

: 2- holding more textures on the card. this is good
: if you are doing lots of textures since it is much
: faster to just grab the data from the card rather
: than from main memory (that uses the cpu, which
: could be doing other things). Textures are used a
: lot in 3d games. not mame...

: unless you are going to play games that use the video card ram (most new PC games) you don't need
: more than a few meg.

: i doubt that the performance of a Geforce2 or
: Radeon will do you any good with mame games.
: better to spend the money on a bigger monitor.

: : : Based on the multiple posts about the Trident Blade 3D, I would say that has the makings of a winner. I don't have an arcade monitor (yet), so I guess I'm not much help!!

: : : : I want a Geforce2 but heard it won't work so it looks like Radeon would be the next best thing. Who knows?
