I don't like Mortal Kombat, hehe

I've tried Rtype 1 and 2 and their scrolls seem to be smooth, although it's difficult to say because they are slow, and I don't remember about the original games.

The problem that I've found with scrolls now (you have be very perfectionist to notice, and I had not noticed before) is that while the image is moving (either horizontally or vertically), there's a one-pixel displacement, so if for instance, you have a red square moving vertically, you can see that it shows a lighter red horizontal line on its top, like if it was fading in motion. I think this happens with all res modes and has nothing to do with triple buffer. I don't know if this happens with Advanced Mame, because I can't see it: how can I disable the horizontal scanlines????

So, ¿you're saying that it is necessary to set the refresh of my monitor to 53, 55 etc if I want perfect scrolls? But, aren't those low hz very harmful for your eyes? I don't know if they're fine for arcade monitors or TVs, but in my 17" monitor, it's horrible to work with less than 100hz.

Yep.. like Blacktiger. Honestly, I don't remember the original, but I think the screen was wider. I get a more aproximate res with Advanced Mame, but it's so jerky... (?)

yes, here you're right. I've been thinking about what could be improved, and the thing is screen resolutions. Games that work at 320x240 are perfect, but there are many other that look distorted, like for instance CPS1 games, which I play in 400x300 so they look like in widescreen, even though I set the vsize of my monitor to 100%. I've been writting down some non-standar resolutions from the games I have installed:

240x224
256x224
288x224
320x224
320x240
352x224
384x224
384x240
384x256

With Mame32 I just can use aprox resolutions, like 400x300 or 320x240, so some games don't look good. I've been investigating these issues with Advanced Mame. I've been trying to set some resolutions like 384x288 etc, and they work! I have problems however dealing with screen refresh with these special modes, and some of them are very slow/jerky, maybe due to some problem of missconfiguration. The config of graphic modes is a little chaotic. I have for instance a tweaked res like the mentioned above and there are several options for the same, so I don't know which one to chose. Sometimes my monitor runs out of frequency during the test.

With respect vertical games, there's nothing I can do, nor any version of mame, unless I decided to rotate my monitor. I play them in 400x300 horizontally.

I'm not a casual user, but I have discovered all these issues about DOS and advanced versions of Mame very recently. Moreover, I'm working with a Multisync monitor, so for me it's important to get perfect scrolls and max performance, but also to work with confortable high refresh rates. I generally don't like complicated programs, but if it's necessary to learn to use Advanced Mame to get perfect emulation, then I will do.

BTW, I think this Advanced Mame doesn't work very well in my system because I'm running it while on Win98, not in pure DOS. However, I'ved tried it under pure DOS and (after placing cwsdpmi.exe) it gets stuck when loading the games. Any idea? Moreover, how can I display only the games available with Advanced Menu? And why some games don't load, while they do load with Mame32?
