: : Do you know if an arcade trackball would have an analog or digital output - ie should the cursor move faster if the ball is moved faster, or are you just indicating the direction of movement?

: An arcade trackball would be an OPTICAL device.

I understand the way in which the balls movemebt is captured (have studied the Twisty Grip spinner plans at some length). What I don't understand is how that output translates to screen movement. Take Missle Command as an example - does the cross hair move at a speed relative to the speed of the ball, or is the speed constant regardless of how hard you spin the ball. The controler I have cannot (without modification) be putting out anything other than a simple direction instruction & the current pcb is designed to conver the optical signal to a standard Atari 2600 joystick output (which must be digital). Should part of the information provided by an arcade trackball be the velocity/acceleration of the ball?

Sorry tp labour this point but I've either got an easy job or a hard job trying to get this connected to my machine.

Thanks
