In Reply to: The Blade3d's I've seen have a whopping 8mb of memory. Not exactly what I call powerful. posted by Agent Davis on 18, 2000 at 9:42 PM:

video ram gives you two things:

1- resolution (ie more ram higher res more colors,
8meg does 1600x1200x16bit color)

2- holding more textures on the card. this is good
if you are doing lots of textures since it is much
faster to just grab the data from the card rather
than from main memory (that uses the cpu, which
could be doing other things). Textures are used a
lot in 3d games. not mame...

unless you are going to play games that use the video card ram (most new PC games) you don't need
more than a few meg.

i doubt that the performance of a Geforce2 or
Radeon will do you any good with mame games.
better to spend the money on a bigger monitor.

: : Not trying to be a smart-ass, but it seems like no one knows. I can understand your fustration after multiple posts with little in the way of answers, but I don't think you're being ignored.

: : Based on the multiple posts about the Trident Blade 3D, I would say that has the makings of a winner. I don't have an arcade monitor (yet), so I guess I'm not much help!!

: : : I want a Geforce2 but heard it won't work so it looks like Radeon would be the next best thing. Who knows?
