I noticed you mentioned how happy you are to get full fps on games like Feveron & Don Pachi on a P3-800. :) Well, what if I told you I get between 50 - 60 fps on my P2-300 in those games! That's a P2 optimized DOS build of Advance MAME. So basically my 300 is kicking your old 500's butt by using DOS. :) See my point?

: Go to Default Options, Display, select Full Screen & check Triple Buffer. Triple Buffers (assuming your card supports them, I think it does) will do away with tearing and give you smoother scrolling. Vsync SUCKS and should never be used if triple buffers are available. Vsync often causes hiccups in scrolling while it waits for the display to sync up again.

: But if you're really interested in the best speeds and accurate displays & scrolling, you'll drop MAME32 completely & start learning DOS MAME, especially Advance MAME if you want true accuracy.

: MAME32 will NEVER (not without a ridiculous amount of trouble) properly scroll games that need refresh rates like 55Hz, 53Hz etc., plus it's slower in general. I consider it MAME for beginners - it's OK to learn about MAME, I started with MAME32 myself, but DOS (Advance MAME in particular) is where the real speed and power exists.

: : Yesterday I updated my computer's processor from my old Mendocino 500 to a new P3 800. The difference is not very noticeable using Win98, as I expected, but the games have improved a lot, and I get many more fps in Quake3, Rally Masters, GPL, etc. However, the bigger difference I've noticed is with Mame32! With my Celeron 500 I couldn't get the new games running at more than 40/50 or so, while now I have to turn the fps limiter on, because I get 80, 90 and even more. Games such as Armed Police Batrider, Esprade, Dangun Feveron, Dodonpachi, and many other games from the late nineties, which are among the more exigent, run at 60/60 all the time. So, I'm very very happy :) The only thing I'd like to know is how can I turn vsync on, so as to make the scroll even more perfect, since speed is not a problem. There's an option in the OpenGL setup of my Geforce DDR card, but I believe it has no effect on 2D games. Any idea?
