The system should be more than adequate for those games. I'm curious why you don't want to purchase a Hagstrom encoder or an IPAC instead of hacking the Sidewinders? It seems that it would be just as easy to make a plugin harness for each control panel to interface with one keyboard encoder assuming you're using the same computer for all games. It would also be much cheaper to buy one encoder instead of half a dozen sidewinders and you wouldn't be limited to Windows, you could run pure DOS as well. When I used a sidewinder as a joystick on my old computer ( slower than yours...a 200mhz pentium MMX ) I could notice a slight lag when pressing the buttons probably due to the software's key interpreter; it most likely wouldn't be a problem for you since your computer is faster but in all cases I think a keyboard encoder would give you a much quicker more responsive feel.

: I'm looking to setup M.A.M.E. on my PC so I can practice certain classic games for a tournament next year. I have even gone through the trouble of finding and purchasing actual arcade game control panels, and a half dozen Microsoft Sidewinders to hack for this purpose.

: I'm hearing that speed(or lack thereof) is an issue when playing M.A.M.E. games on the Windows platform(which is what I think I'll be limited to since I'll be using the Sidewinder PCBs). But since I'll only be playing the classics(ie; Millipede, Joust, Choplifter, Asteroids, Gunsmoke), will this really be an issue in my case? Will the games play exactly the same as the actual arcade games? My system is a 450Mhz Pentium 2, with 128mb, and an ATI All-In-Wonder Pro 8megs(PCI).

: Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated(along with recommendations for a M.A.M.E. version and front end for my purpose).

: Thanks a lot.
