The guys are right here. It is an issue with irq #5. SB16 uses irq 5. And many of the newer sb cards do not support dos at all. What they do is use dos emulation to produce sound in dos. If you check your devices in your system properties in win98 you will see this "device". I run the SB Live! and it uses this emulation and I do know the pci128 does as well (my brother runs that card). All you need to do is run in a dos window (I am unsure of pure dos support as I have never tested mame that way) and be sure that your sb16 emulation is on irq 5 and not sharing it with any other devices. Or just run mame32. Under windows it doesn't matter what irq you use.
