Actually, I did futz around looking in the ArcadeOS source since I remembered that whole key-remapping Protected Mode/Real Mode stuff from the documentation (yep, I actually RTFM!) Unfortunately, my programming prowess (definite lack thereof) precluded me from actually coming up with anything substantial... I like and use ArcadeOS and wouldn't mind integrating the IR2DOS code into it or MAME although if it was integrated into MAME, that would be preferable...

As for the prior message about using the RS-232 port of the Hagstrom encoder... fortunately, I DO have the encoder... unfortunately, that solution won't work since it's really the TSR that interprets the IR code into an key code which it then passes to the keyboard buffer... After reading a little about interrupts last night, I'm not sure if it's the keyboard interrupt or the COM1 interrupt (or both) that is the root of the whole PM/RM problem.

: I don't know if you are running DOS or ArcadeOS but ArcadeOS can remap keys to MAME. So it might be easier to try to add the IR2DOS code into ArcadeOS. If ArcadeOS could read the keys from the IR it could pass them on to MAME.

: The source is available for both and then it wouldn't be so dependent on MAME and it could be used with any program that ArcadeOS runs.
