You'll probably have to do some hardware and software tweaking, but other than that you'll have little trouble. From what I've heard a Blade3D based card will handle even Vector games on a standard res monitor with some tweaking.

: So what you're telling me is that I should have no problem with the different resolutions that MAME supports even though my tube can only do very limited resolutions as long as I provide the hardware to support it?

: If so, that sounds great and I'm off to buy me a new chassis!

: : CGA res=Standard res=Normal/80's sytle monitor. All Arcade monitor caveats (other than Medium/EGA res related) apply (having to use special software, limited vid. card choices, etc.).

: : : Tom,

: : : Before I posted these messages, I performed an exhaustive search on Wells-Gardner through both this board and the archives. ALl that I could really come up with were discussions on the U9100, which is a VGA monitor. That doesn't help me any because it sounds like that monitor is meant for a PC -- not an arcade PCB.

: : : What I need to know is how a 640x200 CGA monitor will perform under MAME. If it does well, and will run most of the games, then I will buy a new chassis for mine. If it is subpar, then I need to reevaluate my options and decide if I really need PCB support that badly.

: : : : As far as I know, there are no "contrast and compare" articles out there. If you want to know how well a specific monitor works with Mame, search for it's name and model in the Message board and the archives.

: : : : : I asked this question in a thread below, but garnered no responses, so I'll give it one of it's own:

: : : : : Has anyone published a contrast & compare regarding the types of arcade monitors available? I am in a unique situation where I want to get my cabinet back it its original state, but I will someday convert it to MAME.

: : : : : I currently have a Wells-Gardner 25" CGA 640x200 monitor that is need of a new chassis which can be had for $110. How will this monitor perform under MAME? Can I run hi-res (newer) games on it, or should I go for a new one that supports higher resolution?

: : : : : It must be a 25" monitor, and it must be able to run JAMMA(+) PCBs without a convertor between the board and the monitor.

: : : : : Thanks for your time,

: : : : : -Matt
