So, what you're trying to do is get the signal on the COM port to simulate keystrokes, right? I remember seeing that one of the Hagstrom keyboard encoder models can be set up to pass data from its RS-232 port through the keyboard port to a PC. Unfortunately, that's a bit of an expensive solution, unless you already have that particular encoder. I don't remember which one it is, you might check their web site if you're interested in following that route.

: Hey Folks,

: OK, I *know* I've asked for help before, but I'm going to try one last time (honest!!). I REALLY want to get MAME to work with the IR2PC remote control unit that I shelled out for! From what I gather, the problem is that since MAME is a Protected Mode program, the IR TSR that interprets the COM1 signal and sends a pre-programmed 'keystroke' to the keyboard buffer is totally ignored...

: Now, since I'm no programmer (or at least not that advanced!), maybe there's a bright spark out there who might have an idea as to how to integrate the source code for the IR TSR into MAME (hey, if it's fairly easy to do, maybe someone can just point me in the right direction!) or figure out some other workaround... If anyone is up to the challenge, I've put the source code and the executable up on a temporary webpage (I really hope the author doesn't mind this, but I don't know how to contact him!!)

: Not that I'd give my first born, but if you're in the Atlanta area, I'd definitely offer a beer or three if you can succeed!!

: Thanks,
: Mark
