okay, the people here are generally pretty good about helping newbies like yourself, but it doesn't seem like anyone else is gonna answer you, so i'll take a shot at it.
#1. the "path" that connects everything is probably the ground. in order to use the button, you need a live wire, and a ground wire. on controller circuit boards, there is usually a common ground applied (this means that all the buttons use the same ground.)
#2. if you take a look at the controller, unless you're using some odd type of controller, the contacts will correspond with the button. therefore, if button a is the furthest button to the right, just wire up the ground to your pushbutton, and the contact next to it to the "live" part of the pushbutton..

i've tried to make a picture for u. the top line is the button. when pushed it bridges the gap between the live and ground wires.
