Due to the potential danger associated with monitors, I'd try posting this question on RGVAC (rec.games.video.arcade.collecting).

I can GUARANTEE you'll get a ton of answers. (Some of which will be far too technical!)

: : I'm getting further along in my own Mame cabinet project and I finally have a picture displaying and games are at least playable on my arcade monitor. The problem is, after about ten minutes of game play testing on it, there was this momentary blinding flash of light. I was blinded for a few seconds, kind of like someone had pointed a camera flash right at my eyes. I stepped over to the side of the cabinet (out of the direct path of any coming explosion?) and I looked at the arcade monitor and the game on it looked perfectly fine. I stood there for a few seconds more just watching it to see what would happen and sure enough, about 20 seconds later, three more brilliant flashes right in a row. I yanked the plug and decided to come consult you guys. What the heck is going on with my monitor? It was scary enough to make me reconsider just using a TV with my ATI card in PC2TV mode for my arcade cabinet and throwing away that arcade monitor altogether.

: : In retrospect, the games did seem unusually bright on that monitor and a little unstable with occasional "pulsing" every 5-10 seconds or so. Does this help anyone with a diagnosis?

: : Thanks,
: : ShamanRa
