8/4 way control question

Hello-

This is just a quick question. I've been using happ super joysticks in 8-way mode for about a month without any problems except one--when playing pacman and other games that used 4 way joysticks, I have problems turning the right direction sometimes because of the diagonols. Is there any option in Mame32 to eliminate the diagonols? I know there's an option in Mame for dos--just curious about the mame32. Thanks
