In Reply to: okay, one q at a time: what video card to use with AdvanceMenu 1.5, vertically rotated, with a 19" arcade monitor? posted by jammadave on 6, 2000 at 11:24 AM:

Why not mail the author Andrea Mazzoleni (am@mediacom.it) and ask him? Or join the AdvanceMAME MailingList by sending an empty email to advancemame-subscribe@egroups.com. And/or post a request to all AdvanceMAME/MENU/CAB users at the mailing list (advancemame@egroups.com) and ask them for feedback?

You can also browse the AdvanceMAME homepage (http://advancemame.arcadeheaven.com/). Read trough the sections "Documentation" and "Cards". The whole site contains a lot of information worth reading if you really want to setup and run the AdvanceMAME/MENU/CAB environment.

AdvanceMAME/MENU/CAB is not as easy to setup as regular MAME + ArcadeOS out of the box. You must read trough the documentation and take the time it takes to setup the modes you want with the MV.EXE utility etc. Especially if you want to run it with an arcade monitor...

Using AdvanceMENU + regular MAME with a multisync monitor is really easy. Just copy the AdvanceMENU files to your MAME directory and run MM.EXE...

Don't give up because the result is worth it. You could compare it with using different operating systems:

Plain Vanilla MAME = Like DOS, easy to setup and great performance but without GUI...

MAME32 = Like Win9x, great GUI + a lot of bells and whistles and therefor not as fast as DOS MAME...

AdvanceMAME = Like Unix, requires a lot of knowledge and manual tweaking but delivers a lot if tweaked right...

Below is a copy of the content of the "Cards" section on the AdvanceMAME site... It could serve as an guideline to what cards to chose from...

Please relay any usable answers from Andrea or the mailing list to this board...
