while looking at a keyboard matrix and testing the diffrernt combinations of the matrix, how do you know which soder spots will fry the circuitboard ???

while looking at a keyboard matrix and testing the diffrernt combinations of the matrix, how do you know which soder spots will fry the circuitboard when combined. how do you tell where the x and y asis are on the matrix??? are the x and y on the same side of the matrix???
