I got a 20” SVGA multisync monitor for free. It is old and the CRT has the same shape as a real arcade monitor. I have several arcade monitors and a used TV in the garage but I prefer the multisync monitor. Interfacing is no problem and it works in all kind of resolutions. MAME scan lines makes it look a bit more genuine and I happily trading what is missing compared with original arcade video for the greater flexibility a multisync monitor gives me.

I am a bit worried about the day my monitor will break (it is almost 10 years old). I think I would try the TV with an S-video-out-card and if that was not good enough, one of the arcade monitors.

I am not sure of what I would have done if I had a working arcade monitor in the cabinet that I was about to convert or if I hadn’t got the SVGA monitor for free…

: Hi all. I built my stand alone controller about 3 years ago (it is on the examples page). I went this route as I never had room for a full sized arcade cabinet (renting at the time). Now with a new house purchase I took the plunge. Found my cabinet (converted Sega WrestleWar) at an auction here in Ohio for $30 bucks. The damn thing is 100% functional.. $30 bucks... So I am at a crossroads now. I have a viewsonic 21" monitor for the cabinet. That was the original plan assuming I couldn't get a working cabinet for my budget. But with the great deal I got I now have a WG 7000 series monitor to play with. It is vertically mounted. I intended to run windows 98 in the cab with mame, callus and an atari 2600 emu. My dilemma is that Robotron is in a tie for galaga as greatest game ever. If I use a horizontal arcade monitor mount will I be able to run vertical games? And has anyone run windows on the wg7000? Most people have been using the 3100 for windows. So now knowing the hardware I have and the games I want to run what do you think I should do.

: Thanks. I hold the opinions of this board in very high regard.
