MAME32 can be slower than MAME, but it has a few advantages as well. MAME32 has no need of a frontend. It has a very nice interface for selecting and running games that can display screenshots, marquees, etc. Therefore it is a bit easier for novices to learn to use.
Also, MAME32 has support for some controllers that MAME does not, USB devices, light guns from Act Labs, etc.

: MAME is an application that can either be run under Windows in a DOS window OR in real mode DOS. Running in real mode is best for stability and performance.

: MAME32 is a NATIVE Win32 application. This means that you must run it in Windows. The downfall to that is you get slower performance and MAME32 is usually a few versions behind MAME (it takes them a while to port it)
