Well, first off, I'm assuming that when you say "motherboard", you're talking about the circuitpad out of a game controller of some kind, and not the actual motherboard out of a PC? I just want to get that out of the way, because there probably aren't any *motherboard* modifications that you'll want to do...

As far as what you're wanting to do, yeah, you pretty much hit the nail right on the head. If you connect one of the contacts to the "ground" prong on the microswitch and the other to the "N/O" (or "normally open") prong on the microswitch, then yes, pushing the button will complete the circuit, and you'll be in business.
