Weird things with arcade monitor

I've just succeeded (sort of) in phase one of my first cabinet project. I've got a VGA cable wired up to the JAMMA fingerboard (thanks Bob) and I'm getting a picture on my monitor (25", unknown brand, in a Sega JAMMA cabinet that apparently came straight from Japan to the guy I bought it from). There are some weird colored areas in the corners, so I guess it needs degaussing, but that's not my real concern.

On the right half of the screen, I'm seeing some random patterns of dots which drift upward on the screen (I wish I could describe it better than that, hopefully you get the picture). My only guess on what's happening is that I need to not "cheat" and actually wire up a circuit to combine the H & V sync to composite sync. Does this sound like a problem that would result from the sync wires just being twisted together? If so, is there anyone who is a bit more capable than I, who can help out with the circuit design? I've seen the schematics on Tomi Engdahl's site, but that's way above my quite limited electronics abilities.

Once I get this straightened out, it's on to wiring up the I-Pac and the sound... yay!

TIA,
Brian
