in addition to MAME's not wanting to center on my screen...
last night i had my monitor turned vertical with the -rol option on mame, and was running Tempest just fine. after a couple games I left it running in attract and went to do something.
i came back to the computer about 20 minutes later to find the image shaking horizontally at a fairly high freq (but not so fast i couldn't see movement).
BUT it only happened when the MAME screens were running - when i escaped back to the dos prompt the text was just fine. so i tried running a couple more games with -rol on and the same shaking happened. and fine again when back at the c:\ prompt.
i am about to throw this computer out the window, please help!
