ArcadeOS - CFG file corruption

ArcadeOS creates corrupted cfg and data files when I run it with the -arcade option. I can play for hours using my standard monitor and hence not in arcade mode without any hassles. But when I use the -arcade for my arcade monitor, arcadeos will fill the options in the default settings with garbled characters, (the funny looking ascii characters from the upper end of the ascii set.) I have deleted / reinstalled mame and arcadeos together but still get problems. I am running a Celeron 633 64Mb Ram, ATI rage video.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?
Apart from that Arcadeos is sensational. I get a beautiful picture on my 20" Hankin Table top.
