You usually get what you pay for (unless you are
being ripped off). The best way is to have a look
at the different type of monitors of you can. I
would choose a monitor that has Vertical and Horzontal Sync so it will be easier when
hooking it up to a VGA card. You can tell if a
monitor has this by finding a small 6 pin connector that has R, G, B, E, VS, HS marked on
the PCB of the chassis . Some monitors are stardard resolution which most games use and what Mame only uses. Other types of monitors are stardard/medium resolution they are switchable. The stardard/medium res monitors would be the best choice as it is more future proof and you can run
Monarc in windows more clearly. They will cost
alot more and usually only available in bigger
screens.

Common Arcade monitors:

KORTEK Chassis with a 20" Sanyo or Samsung monitor
The ones I have seen have VS and HS input.
Standard Res
Colours good
Price maybe $50 to $150? (I payed $50 for mine I
have seen whole cabinets with these for $250)
I had one of these for running Mame it work very well. It is easy to rotate the screen.

NANAO Chassis with a 26" Mitsubishi monitor.
Has VS and HS input
Standard/Medium Res
Colours very good
Price about $600
I am using this as my Mame machine very good
picture but you pay for it. I do not try to
rotate the screen.

PS. All monitors I have seen run off 100V so when
you buy a cabinet or arcade monitor make sure you
get a stepdown transformer 240V to 100V. This
will also serve as you isolation transformer which
you must have.
